Handmade Resin with IKB Finishing. Collaboration between the Estates of Yves Klein and François Pompon. Numbered, accompanied by a certificate with the publisher's stamp and signed by the representatives of the rights holders of the two artists. Yves Klein’s L’Ours Pompon is a striking synthesis of modern art and sculptural tradition, celebrating the centennial of François Pompon’s White Bear, first acclaimed at the 1922 Salon d’Automne. This 2022 edition, crafted in handmade resin with Klein’s iconic International Klein Blue (IKB) finish, is the product of an extraordinary collaboration between the Yves Klein and François Pompon Estates. Molded directly from Pompon’s original form and encased in an acrylic display box, the piece unites two legacies in a single, contemplative object. The concept traces its lineage to 1962, when Klein, in the year of his death, famously reimagined classical sculptures such as the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory of Samothrace in IKB—acts that embodied his belief in color as a conduit for the immaterial. Decades later, the idea of applying this same treatment to Pompon’s bear emerged through Artémus Éditions, known for their admiration of Klein’s work. This resulted in a sculpture that is not only a visual homage but a conceptual exploration of essence: the essence of form through Pompon, and of pure color through Klein. The collaboration’s strict adherence to museal standards reinforces the work’s position as a refined and thoughtful edition—limited to 999 examples—honoring two pioneers of visual language.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
