Size of the plate - 76.5 X 96.5 cm - Size of the sheet: 110.7 X 119.5 cm - Co-published: Art Multi et sedcome and Fondation France Liberté, Paris - Printer : Studio Arcay, Saint-Escobille, France // Liberté, from mémoire de la liberté by Roy Lichtenstein, created in 1991, is a serigraph that utilizes the artist's iconic Pop Art style. The piece is divided into two primary sections: a bold yellow lower half and a blue upper half filled with diagonal stripes. The composition is framed by classical architectural columns and linear borders, giving it a formal, almost monumental appearance. A small bird is seen flying in the blue section, symbolizing freedom against the structured, almost confining lines. This work, co-published by Art Multi and Fondation France Liberté, reflects themes of liberty, combining Lichtenstein's comic-inspired style with a thoughtful nod to classical art forms.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
