Paper slightly waving on the right side Françoise sur fond gris by Pablo Picasso, created in 1950, is a powerful lithographic portrait of Françoise Gilot, Picasso’s muse and partner at the time. Rendered in rich, velvety blacks on gray-blue laid Ingres Canson paper, the work captures Gilot’s contemplative expression, her hand resting against her face. The stark tonal contrasts and confident, sculptural lines demonstrate Picasso’s masterful command of lithography. This rare proof, aside from the limited edition of 50 and 5 artist's proofs, was printed and published by Atelier Mourlot in Paris. What is Cubism?

Cubism is an art movement that aimed to depict multiple perspectives of objects or figures within a single picture. Artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso pioneered this style around 1907.
