Femme Assise (Dora Maar) by Pablo Picasso, created in 1955, is a color lithograph that exemplifies Picasso’s Cubist style, depicting his muse Dora Maar in a seated pose. The artwork is filled with vibrant blue tones and bold, fragmented forms, characteristic of Picasso’s innovative approach to portraiture. The figure of Dora is rendered with angular shapes and overlapping perspectives, emphasizing the complexity of human emotion and form. Her face is shown from multiple angles, a hallmark of Cubism, creating a sense of depth and motion within a static pose. The detailed texture of her clothing, particularly the striped blue and red blouse, contrasts sharply with the abstract nature of her facial features. Picasso's signature is located in the lower right corner, while the edition number is placed on the left, making this lithograph both a visually dynamic and highly collectible piece.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
