Portfolio of 10 lithographs, 2016 On Somerset paper - Induccción cromática a doble frecuencia Kamarata // Kamarata by Carlos Cruz-Diez is a portfolio of 10 lithographs created in 2016, embodying the artist's exploration of color and perception. Each lithograph, printed on Somerset paper, features Cruz-Diez's signature use of optical effects and chromatic induction, where layered, parallel lines in varying hues create dynamic, shifting patterns that seem to pulse and vibrate. The arrangement of subtle color transitions within each piece creates an immersive experience, as the patterns appear to shift with the viewer’s movement, engaging both the eye and mind. Cruz-Diez, a pioneer in kinetic and optical art, uses this series to explore the phenomenon of color in space, making Kamarata a testament to his lifelong dedication to the study of chromatic interaction.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
