// Carlos Cruz-Diez’s Induction Chromatique à Double Fréquence, Série Orinoco 5, produced in 2018, showcases his mastery of optical and kinetic art through the vibrant interplay of color and perception. Limited to 75 editions, this lithograph is composed of vertical stripes in yellow, green, blue, and orange hues that seem to oscillate and shift depending on the viewer's angle and distance. The repetitive pattern and careful gradient transitions create an illusion of movement and depth, as though the colors are continuously vibrating across the canvas. This piece exemplifies Cruz-Diez’s exploration of color as an independent entity, capable of generating spatial effects and dynamic experiences. By blending scientific precision with artistic expression, the artwork draws viewers into a visually immersive, ever-changing experience that transcends static imagery.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
