Ceramic plate, signed and numbered at the back. // Céramique #3 by Carlos Cruz-Diez, created in 2008, is a vibrant ceramic artwork that exemplifies the artist's fascination with color theory and kinetic art. This piece features a ceramic plate adorned with vertical stripes in alternating orange, green, blue, and black. The arrangement of colors creates an optical illusion of depth and motion that shifts as viewers alter their perspective. The central section appears to recede visually, enhancing the piece's dimensionality and inviting the viewer into an interactive visual experience. Measuring 40 x 40 x 4 cm, this limited edition piece is part of an edition of 8, with additional artist proofs, each signed and numbered on the back. Céramique #3 demonstrates Cruz-Diez's innovative use of color and perception to engage the viewer in a dynamic exploration of visual effects.

What is ‘light and space’?
The Light and Space Movement refers to loosely affiliated art movements connected to minimalism, geometric abstraction, and op art that originated in Southern California in the 1960s. Greatly influenced by artist John McLaughlin, these artists focused on sensory phenomena such as light, perception, and space as central elements of their work. They also incorporated cutting-edge technologies from the aerospace and engineering industries to develop light-filled and sensuous objects, creating immersive experiences that emphasize the viewer's perception.
