Mural work with moving part. Signed at the back. // Chromointerference Manipulable Circulaire B by Carlos Cruz-Diez, created in 2013, is a circular kinetic artwork that exemplifies the artist's fascination with color, movement, and optical effects. This piece features a round frame filled with a series of fine, colorful vertical lines that shift and change as the viewer moves or interacts with the piece. The overlapping colors and lines create a dynamic chromatic interference pattern, generating an illusion of movement and depth. As a manipulable artwork, viewers are invited to engage actively with it, enhancing the immersive experience of Cruz-Diez’s exploration of color theory and perception. With a diameter of 50 cm and part of a limited edition of 75, each piece is signed on the back, marking Cruz-Diez’s commitment to interactive and perceptual art.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
