Stamped and marked 'Edition Picasso / Madoura Plein Feu / Edition Picasso / Madoura' (underneath) Pablo Picasso’s Sujet poule (1954) is a white earthenware ceramic vessel shaped like a stylized hen, adorned with bold blue decorations. The surface features Picasso’s characteristic expressive brushstrokes, combining abstract patterns with playful figuration. The hen’s body is decorated with geometric and curvilinear motifs, while its face bears human-like features, a signature element in Picasso’s ceramics. Part of an edition of 500, this piece was produced at the Madoura pottery studio in Vallauris, where Picasso explored ceramic art with great enthusiasm. Sujet poule exemplifies his ability to merge functional form with artistic expression, transforming everyday objects into works of art infused with wit and spontaneity.

Stamped and marked 'Edition Picasso / Madoura Plein Feu / Edition Picasso / Madoura' (underneath) Pablo Picasso’s Sujet poule (1954) is a white earthenware ceramic vessel shaped like a stylized hen, adorned with bold blue decorations. The surface features Picasso’s characteristic expressive brushstrokes, combining abstract patterns with playful figuration. The hen’s body is decorated with geometric and curvilinear motifs, while its face bears human-like features, a signature element in Picasso’s ceramics.
