This etching and drypoint from the Suite Vollard captures the mythological imagination that animated Picasso's graphic work of the early 1930s, when the interplay between desire, the studio and classical antiquity was at its most fertile. The contrast between the heavily scored face and the elegantly minimal body creates a charged psychological tension unique to Picasso's printmaking. What is Cubism?
