Paper in wooden frame. Actual work is 50cm x 50cm x 2cm. // Luis Tomasello’s ST 1 is a refined exploration of color and depth through minimalist design. This mixed-media piece consists of a grid of square cutouts with alternating shades of soft pink and green, set against a clean white background. Mounted within a wooden frame, this 50 cm square composition draws viewers into an optical illusion of depth as the hues create subtle shifts in perception based on viewing angle and light. Tomasello’s precision and sensitivity to color play invite contemplation, as the artwork embodies his mastery in blending optical effects with serene geometry.

What is kinetic art?
Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
