Lenticular Acrylic panel mounted onto white acrylic. Signed on a sticker label. Sprinters: Women sprinters 3 (2024) by Julian Opie depicts five female runners in vivid silhouette—yellow, blue, red, green, and white—racing across a lenticular acrylic panel. Their simplified, linear forms overlap against a deep black background, creating a vibrant sense of motion that shifts as the viewer changes perspective. Emphasizing speed and rhythm through repetition and color, the piece reflects Opie’s signature blend of digital aesthetics and minimal figuration. This dynamic work, part of an edition of 36 with 4 artist proofs, celebrates collective movement and energy in a sleek, contemporary visual language.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
