Lithograph on Rives BFK White paper // Portraits (B&W) 3 by Christopher Wool is a 2014 lithograph on Rives BFK White paper. Known for his abstract and experimental style, Wool uses a combination of printed dots and fluid ink-like splatters to create a visually intriguing piece. The central mass of dotted patterns is irregularly shaped and layered with areas of blotched black and gray tones, giving the work a textured, almost organic feel. Wool’s exploration of abstraction, repetition, and randomness is evident here, making this work a study in contrasts—between order and chaos, precision and spontaneity.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
