Set of 5 handcoloured etchings. Each measuring 39 x 27 cm. // This exquisite set of five handcoloured etchings by Atsushi Kaga presents an untitled suite of intimate compositions, each measuring thirty-nine by twenty-seven centimetres. The handcolouring lends each impression a unique character, transforming the editioned prints into semi-unique works that blur the boundary between printmaking and painting. Kaga's characteristic cast of characters and atmospheric settings unfold across the five sheets, creating a narrative sequence that invites the viewer to construct their own story. The intimate scale and precious handwork make this suite a collector's jewel from one of Japan's most compelling contemporary printmakers.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
