Original handcoloured lithograph. Hand-signed and numbered. // This verdant handcoloured lithograph by Atsushi Kaga immerses Kumacchi the bear in a lush green setting where the character seems to merge with the surrounding foliage. The second of two companion works exploring Kumacchi's relationship to the natural world, this print captures a sense of peaceful dissolution — the bear becoming part of the landscape rather than merely inhabiting it. Kaga's subtle hand-colouring emphasises the harmonious green tonalities that unite figure and ground, while the lithographic line preserves the character's gentle individuality. A quietly beautiful work about belonging and becoming.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
