Yaacov Agam – Colors of Love, ca. 1970 – Screen-print

Screenprint in colors.

Signed and numbered in pencil.

'Colors of Love' by Yaacov Agam is a screen-print composed entirely in black and white, its surface divided into a grid of rectangular cells, each containing geometric motifs — stepped diagonals, nested squares, hourglass figures, and pixelated triangles — rendered with hard, precise edges. The staircase forms that recur throughout are characteristic of Agam's broader preoccupation with optical movement and transformation: trained under Johannes Itten in Switzerland and shaped by the constructivist thinking of Max Bill, Agam built a practice around the idea that a work is never fixed but exists in 'perpetual becoming.' Dating from around 1970, this print belongs to the period just before his 1972 retrospective at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, when his international profile was at its height. The strict binary palette and modular structure give the composition a rhythmic, almost notational quality.

What is Digital Art?

Digital art refers to artistic practices or works that utilize digital technology as an essential component of both the creation and presentation process. Since the 1970s, various terms like multimedia and computer art have been used to describe this practice. Digital art is a subset of the broader category known as new media art, which has brought significant changes to the art world. Technology has transformed traditional forms of painting, drawing, sound/music, and sculpture into new digital formats, expanding the possibilities of artistic expression.
