Offset Color Lithograph - Signed, Numbered, Dated, including artist's’ thumbprint // Restoration by Robert Rauschenberg, created in 2004, is a limited edition offset color lithograph. This visually rich work layers a variety of urban images, including a fire hydrant, a power pole with wires, a classical statue, and elements of industrial infrastructure. The bold use of color and the juxtaposition of modern and historical references reflect Rauschenberg’s interest in the complexity of human environments and cultural memory. The layering of seemingly disparate elements, such as the classical figure beside urban objects, evokes a sense of temporal and thematic contrast. Signed, numbered, and dated by the artist, with his thumbprint included, this lithograph is a powerful example of Rauschenberg’s exploration of collage and assemblage in printmaking.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
