A set of 4 Lithographs from A Los Toros: Le Pique, Le Picador II, Jeu de la Cape, Les Banderillas. Each print hand-signed lower right. Printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris. Published by André Sauret, Monte-Carl. Literature: Bloch 1017; Mourlot 350
'A Los Toros (set of 4)' by Pablo Picasso is a set of four lithographs from 1961, each measuring 24.5 × 31.5 cm. Three of the sheets are rendered in black ink alone, capturing the arena, mounted picadors, bulls, and spectators through rapid, gestural mark-making that distils movement into loose but confident line. The fourth lithograph introduces vivid colour — a red and yellow border frames a field of scattered multicoloured ovals surrounding the corrida figures, a striking contrast to its monochrome companions. All four sheets bear handwritten dates and Picasso's pencil signature in the lower margins, and belong to a numbered edition. The bullfight was a lifelong subject for Picasso, rooted in his Spanish upbringing, and at 79 he returned to it with the directness of an artist who had spent decades compressing form to its essentials through Cubism.

What is Cubism?
Cubism is an art movement that aimed to depict multiple perspectives of objects or figures within a single picture. Artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso pioneered this style around 1907. The name Cubism emerged from their use of geometric shapes and outlines that often resembled cubes, breaking objects down into abstracted forms.
