Niki DE SAINT PHALLE | Jungle I | Lithograph, c.1993 — available on Composition Gallery

Original color lithograph. Signed, unnumbered. // This exuberant colour lithograph by Niki de Saint Phalle transports the viewer into a lush, fantastical jungle teeming with life. Characteristic Nana-like figures, whimsical animals, and bold serpentine forms populate a verdant landscape of tropical vegetation beneath a yellow sun. Rendered in Saint Phalle's signature joyful palette of greens, reds, blues, and oranges, the composition pulses with the psychological vitality and feminist energy that defined her practice. A hand-signed work from one of the most important women artists of the twentieth century, celebrating her lifelong engagement with colour, joy, and transformation.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
