Screenprint in colours with silver ink // Miles Aldridge’s Venus Etcetera (after Titian), created in 2022, is a limited edition screen print that reimagines classical art with a contemporary twist. The artwork depicts a woman, styled with platinum blonde hair and retro lingerie, leaning casually on a vibrant red kitchen counter. The setting, filled with pop culture references and bright, saturated colors, contrasts with the subject’s contemplative expression, drawing attention to themes of domesticity and modern consumerism. The screen print employs silver ink to accentuate the surreal atmosphere, creating a hyper-stylized aesthetic reminiscent of pop art while also paying homage to Titian’s classical portrayals of Venus.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
