Doors #1

Miles Aldridge's Doors #2, 2023 screen-print of a woman with styled blonde hair holding groceries, standing behind an orange door with a pink background.

Screenprints in colours // Doors #2 by Miles Aldridge, created in 2023, is a limited edition screen-print that captures the artist’s iconic retro aesthetic and cinematic flair. The image depicts a woman with voluminous, styled blonde hair, dressed in bold, geometric-patterned attire, and adorned with striking jewelry. She stands behind an open orange door, holding a grocery bag filled with fresh produce, set against a backdrop of pink walls and a framed artwork resembling a Van Gogh painting. The vivid color palette—featuring oranges, pinks, and greens—creates a vibrant, almost hyper-real scene that combines elements of nostalgia and modernity. Aldridge’s attention to detail and stylized composition evoke the glamour and intrigue of 1960s fashion photography, playing with themes of domesticity and artifice.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
