The composition unfolds within an arched format, filled with fantastical animals, symbolic figures, and radiant forms arranged around a central shield-like motif. Dominated by rich greens with accents of red, blue, and gold, the imagery evokes the biblical Tribe of Gad through a vibrant, dreamlike visual language. The dynamic arrangement and fluid lines mirror the luminosity of stained glass, translating spiritual narrative into print. Published by Mourlot in Paris, the work captures Chagall’s distinctive fusion of folklore, religion, and poetic imagination.

What is Cubism?
Cubism is an art movement that aimed to depict multiple perspectives of objects or figures within a single picture. Artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso pioneered this style around 1907. The name Cubism emerged from their use of geometric shapes and outlines that often resembled cubes, breaking objects down into abstracted forms.
