Etching and aquatint in colors on wove paper. Signed and numbered in pencil. Marc Chagall’s Autoportrait (1968) is a poetic etching and aquatint that merges self-portraiture with dreamlike imagery. The composition features Chagall’s face on the right, drawn with expressive, energetic lines, juxtaposed with a woman in a flowing dress, possibly a symbol of love or memory. Surrounding them are floating doves, houses, and a figure holding flowers, elements often seen in Chagall’s romantic and nostalgic visual language. The delicate use of color—hints of blue, yellow, and green—adds depth and softness to the scene. This artwork, part of a limited edition of 50, captures Chagall’s signature fusion of personal narrative and fantasy.

What is Cubism?
Cubism is an art movement that aimed to depict multiple perspectives of objects or figures within a single picture. Artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso pioneered this style around 1907. The name Cubism emerged from their use of geometric shapes and outlines that often resembled cubes, breaking objects down into abstracted forms.
