Color Lithograph - Edition of 75 // Pushbuttons by James Rosenquist, a lithograph from 1972, exemplifies the artist's fascination with juxtaposing everyday objects and abstracted human forms. This monochromatic piece combines a close-up of hands with the detailed depiction of push buttons, possibly from a machine or appliance, emphasizing the mechanical interactions of modern life. The abstract quality of the hands, with their blurred lines and distorted shapes, contrasts with the solid, structured buttons below, creating a dialogue between human touch and industrial design. Rosenquist, known for his Pop Art influences, uses this work to highlight themes of technology, human interaction, and the encroachment of the mechanical in the personal sphere. Limited to an edition of 75, this lithograph is both a collectible artwork and a thought-provoking commentary on modernity.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
