Etching and aquatint on wove paper. Signed lower right. Numbered lower left. // Sweeping arcs and sharp angular trajectories interweave across the sheet in a second variation on Venet's celebrated exploration of the indeterminate line, each mark tracing its own autonomous path while contributing to a larger visual field of controlled complexity. This etching and aquatint from circa 1990 demonstrates the artist's unique position at the intersection of conceptual art and lyrical abstraction, where mathematical principle yields aesthetic richness. The velvety aquatint ground and the incisive etched lines create a textural dialogue that rewards close viewing, revealing subtle hierarchies of depth and movement. From the same edition of 90 as its companion piece, this hand-signed print is an essential counterpart that enriches any collection of post-war European graphic art.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
