Etching and aquatint on wove paper. Signed lower right. Numbered lower left. // A dense tangle of sweeping arcs and angular intersections fills the square format in a controlled explosion of graphic energy, embodying Venet's lifelong investigation of the line as both mathematical concept and aesthetic event. This etching and aquatint from circa 1990 belongs to the artist's seminal Indeterminate Lines series, in which apparent chaos resolves into a rigorous visual logic upon sustained viewing. The aquatint ground lends the tangled marks a velvety depth, while the etched lines retain a tensile, wire-like quality that recalls Venet's monumental steel sculptures. From an edition of 90, this hand-signed impression is a foundational work in the graphic oeuvre of one of France's most internationally recognised conceptual artists.

What is Nouveau Realism?
Nouveau Réalisme is an artistic movement founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein during a collective exhibition at a gallery in Milan. Restany wrote the original manifesto in April 1960, proclaiming the movement. In October of that year, nine artists, including Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman, Pierre Restany, and three Ultra-Lettrists—Jacques de la Villeglé, François Dufrêne, and Raymond Hains—signed the declaration. In 1961, the movement expanded to include Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gérard Deschamps, and César. The movement emphasized a return to reality in art, often incorporating everyday objects and exploring the boundaries between art and life.
