'Un drôle de poisson' by Alexander Calder is a 1965 lithograph measuring 50 × 65.5 cm, hand-signed in pencil and from a numbered edition. Across a cream ground, a row of elongated diamond forms in red-orange, cobalt blue, and yellow alternate in a rhythmic sequence, their overlapping edges producing flat, crisp interlocks of colour. Thin diagonal stems rise from each shape, topped with small bulbous finials in red and blue — a motif that closely recalls the weighted, balanced elements of Calder's sculptural mobiles. Where his three-dimensional works rely on air currents to introduce motion, here the diagonal thrust of the stems and the lateral progression of the diamonds carry an equivalent sense of directed energy across a fixed plane. The flat primaries and bold silhouettes are characteristic of Calder's graphic work from the mid-1960s.
