Surrealism

What is Surrealism?

Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.

Environmental art

Environmental art is a collective term that refers to a wide range of artistic practices and works that engage with historical and ecological themes. The term often encompasses ecological concerns, although it is not exclusively defined by them. Environmental art acknowledges and appreciates the early history of the environmental art movement, including works with activist themes and those celebrating the connection between nature and the artist through the use of natural materials.

Original artwork

Original artwork is art that stems directly from the personal inspiration and creativity of an artist. It is not a direct copy of another artist’s work, though it may be inspired by it. The subject matter can be similar, but it cannot be an exact replication. The term also refers to a unique piece, as opposed to a multiple or edition.

Polaroid

A Polaroid print is an instant photograph produced using a Polaroid camera, which develops the image immediately after exposure. The camera's internal processing allows the photograph to develop and appear within minutes. The term Polaroid is also used more generally to refer to instant photographs and films produced by similar technologies.
