Öyvind Fahlström was born in Brazil in 1928, and he was a multi-media artist. He was also an artist, writer and journalist. He wrote a play entitled 'Black Room' which focused on political scandal in the United States. Fahlstrom moved to Sweden and lived there as a teen.

He was married to a Swedish pop icon, and then later moved to New York City where he died of cancer at just 48 years old. While in Sweden he appeared on television and claimed that he was smoking hash out of a pipe, which was quite controversial! Öyvind Fahlström's critics classify his artwork as Surrealism or Agitprop. On of Öyvind Fahlström's most famous pieces was titled 'Performance of Kisses Sweeter Than Wine,' which was featured in New York in 1966. Öyvind Fahlström also created a painting with oils on photographic paper, which was quite popular as well, and was featured in the exhibit 'Erotic Art' at the Janic Gallery in New York City in the mid to late 60s. Öyvind Fahlström's first exhibited piece of art was a room sized drawing which he named 'Opera.' His collection is now in The Museum of Modern Art.
