Mateo Lopez is a Columbian artist who works, at least as a starting point, with the most basic of mediums: pencil and paper. However, Mateo Lopez's work is anything but basic. Influenced by his 2 years studying architecture in University before switching to art, Mateo Lopez incorporates sculpture to tell a narrative, often related to his own travels.

An example of this are two of his exhibition titled, in English,Motorcycle Diary and Anecdotal Topography, which told the story of his journey to and around Cali and Medellin, Columbia from his home city of Columbia, a journey totaling over 1200 miles, all on a motorcycle, with what he called a portable studio in his backpack. This studio held music, notebooks, a tripod and his camera and 2 changes of clothes.
