Original lithograph in colors on wove paper - Hand-signed in pencil // Rose des Vents by Sonia Delaunay is a 1972 limited edition lithograph that showcases her dynamic use of color and geometry. The composition is an abstract arrangement of circular and curved shapes in vibrant hues of red, green, blue, purple, and black, all intersecting and overlapping. The bold, rhythmic use of color creates a sense of movement and energy, reminiscent of her work within the Orphism movement, which emphasized color theory and abstraction. The layered, rotating forms evoke the idea of a compass rose, guiding the viewer through the artwork’s vibrant pathways. The piece is hand-signed in pencil by the artist, adding a personal touch to this striking example of modern abstraction.

What is Réalités Nouvelles?
Réalités Nouvelles means new realities and refers to an exhibiting society founded in 1939 in Paris by Sonia Delaunay. The Salon des Réalités Nouvelles was dedicated to promoting abstract art, which it considered to be a new reality because it does not imitate the existing physical world. The movement emphasized that abstract art creates its own reality, independent of the external world, and played a significant role in the development and recognition of abstract art in the mid-20th century.
