15-Color Screenprint with Deckled Edges. Mr. Brainwash’s Flower and Sun (2023) is a 15-color screenprint with deckled edges that reinterprets the floral still life through the artist’s vibrant Pop-infused aesthetic. Issued in an edition of 89 and measuring 30 x 22 inches, the composition depicts a bouquet of sunflowers arranged in a simple vase against a radiant yellow ground. Over the textured, painterly base, flat, brightly colored blossoms in pink, orange, and yellow are layered in the foreground, creating a dialogue between expressive brushwork and graphic silhouette. The contrast between gestural background marks and bold, simplified flower forms reflects Mr. Brainwash’s fusion of street art energy with art historical references, notably to Van Gogh’s iconic sunflowers. The work balances exuberant color, repetition, and commercial appeal with a playful reinterpretation of a classic motif.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
