// Eve Incurs God's Displeasure - M236 by Marc Chagall is a lithograph that explores a powerful biblical narrative. The artwork portrays the moment of confrontation between Eve and God, using expressive and symbolic imagery. Eve is shown reclining, her body rendered in warm, earthy tones, suggesting vulnerability and the weight of her actions. In contrast, God is depicted in shades of green, his face intense, as he reaches out from above, surrounded by a swirling, almost chaotic, background. Chagall’s use of color and dynamic lines conveys the tension and drama of the scene, capturing the emotional gravity and divine judgment central to this story.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
