Etching with collage // Untitled 8 (Uno más) by Liliana Porter is a limited edition print, combining etching and collage to create a minimalist yet thought-provoking composition. Set against an expansive, off-white background, the artwork depicts a small figure positioned at the right, who appears to be releasing or interacting with a stream of tiny black marks that spread diagonally across the canvas. These marks, resembling scattered dots or particles, grow denser as they fan outward, creating a visual motion that contrasts with the stillness of the lone figure. The simplicity of the piece, combined with its subtle narrative, invites reflection on themes of individuality, effort, and the passage of time.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
