// Pastora by Liliana Porter is a limited edition lithograph from 2005, produced in an edition of 50. This artwork features a small, vintage-style doll figure centered on an otherwise blank background, creating a sense of isolation and focus. The doll, wearing a worn dress and holding a miniature shepherd's crook, stands with a subtle shadow cast on the minimal surface, adding depth. Porter’s minimalist composition draws attention to the figure’s delicate details and evokes themes of nostalgia, innocence, and perhaps vulnerability. The blank space surrounding the doll amplifies its presence, inviting viewers to reflect on the quiet, almost surreal significance of this solitary figure.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
