96 Aktion – Giardini San Martino, Napoli, R

Hermann Nitsch’s 96 Aktion – Giardini San Martino, Napoli, 1996 photo of ritual scene with blindfolded figure in front of cross, splattered participants.

Photography on Kodak professional paper - Signed and stamped by the official photographer of Hermann Nitsch Archivio Cibulka and the limited edition number. // Hermann Nitsch's 96 Aktion – Giardini San Martino, Napoli (1996) is a powerful and provocative photographic work documenting a performance from Nitsch’s celebrated and controversial Orgies Mysteries Theater. The image captures an intense ritualistic scene with figures surrounding a central, blindfolded person seated in front of a large cross, evoking themes of sacrifice and purification. Participants, dressed in white, are splattered with substances resembling blood, heightening the visceral impact. This composition blurs the line between religious iconography and theatrical extremism, challenging viewers with themes of spirituality, suffering, and transcendence. Printed on Kodak professional paper and part of a limited edition, the photograph is signed and stamped by the official photographer of the Hermann Nitsch Archivio, underscoring its authenticity and rarity.

What is Sound Art?

Sound Art is an artistic discipline where sound is used as the primary medium. Like other contemporary art genres, Sound Art is inherently interdisciplinary, engaging with a variety of subjects including electronics, acoustics, noise music, psychoacoustics, audio media, video, film, and sculpture. Early examples of Sound Art include Luigi Russolo's noise intoners, as well as experimental works by Surrealists, Dadaists, and the Fluxus movement. These early pioneers helped establish sound as a legitimate medium for artistic expression.
