Lithograph on Rives BFK Paper - Published by Gemini GEL Los Angeles - Suite: Artists for Obama Untitled (For Obama) by Ellsworth Kelly, created in 2012, is a lithograph on Rives BFK paper that exemplifies the artist’s minimalist aesthetic. Part of the Artists for Obama suite published by Gemini G.E.L., this work features two rounded black forms that nearly meet at the center, separated by a razor-thin sliver of white space. The stark composition—deceptively simple—echoes Kelly’s long-standing interest in form, balance, and spatial tension. The visual duality may symbolize unity and division, making it a fitting tribute to the themes of reconciliation and vision associated with Barack Obama’s presidency. The work is hand signed and numbered in a rare limited edition.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
