Lithograph with debasing on 300-gram Rives BFK paper -Signed, Numbered and Dated // Ellsworth Kelly’s Germigny is a lithograph that exemplifies his minimalist approach to form and color. Printed on 300-gram Rives BFK paper, this limited edition work contrasts a bold black shape with an empty white space, separated by a subtly curved line. The piece explores spatial relationships and the visual tension between light and dark, inviting contemplation of balance and asymmetry. Kelly’s use of pure shapes without any additional details emphasizes his philosophy of simplicity, where the interplay of form and space evokes a serene yet dynamic visual experience.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
