Lithograph - Hand-signed by artist, Signed and numbered in pencil // Ellsworth Kelly, Black and White is a minimalist lithograph created between 1964 and 1965. This artwork exemplifies Kelly’s exploration of form and void through a stark black shape occupying the majority of the space, with a rectangular cutout at its center. The bold use of a singular, abstract form contrasts with the negative space of the white background, creating a visual tension that invites contemplation of balance and proportion. Kelly’s clean, geometric approach emphasizes the power of simplicity in conveying depth and space. Hand-signed and numbered by the artist, this print reflects his mastery of minimalism and abstraction.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
