Mixographia print on handmade paper.
From Rusty Signs.
'Cash for Tolls 1 (Yellow Rust)' by Ed Ruscha is a mixed media work from 2014, measuring 61 × 61 cm. Three stacked lines of block lettering — 'CASH / FOR / TOOLS' — are embossed or incised into a square panel coated in a mottled, ochre-toned surface that mimics oxidised metal or aged industrial material. The letters read as both found signage and sculptural relief, their depth visible only through subtle shadow. Two mounting holes are punched at the top corners, reinforcing the aesthetic of a reclaimed trade sign. Ruscha's practice, rooted in Los Angeles Pop Art, has long drawn on the vernacular typography of commercial America — roadside signs, storefronts, classified ads — treating language as both image and object. The work is hand-signed and dated in the lower right margin.

What is conceptual art?
Sometimes referred to as Conceptualism, this is an art form where the idea(s) or concept(s) behind the work take precedence over material concerns and traditional aesthetics. Many conceptual artworks can be created by anyone simply by following written instructions. The concept or idea is the most essential aspect of the artwork.
