Mixographia print on handmade paper // For Sale 17 Acres (from Rusty Signs) by Ed Ruscha, created in 2014, is a mixographia print on handmade paper that forms part of his Rusty Signs series. The artwork captures the look and feel of an aged and corroded metal sign, complete with a textured, rust-like surface. The phrase FOR SALE 17 ACRES is embossed in large, block letters, emphasizing the utilitarian nature of the sign while transforming it into a contemplative work of art. The weathered appearance evokes a sense of abandonment and the passage of time, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of commercialism, land, and change. Ruscha's use of everyday language presented in such a degraded, industrial aesthetic bridges the gap between text and visual art, provoking thought about the relationship between objects and the messages they convey. This print is part of a limited edition of 85, exemplifying Ruscha’s distinctive style of turning familiar, often overlooked imagery into profound artistic statements.

What is New Topographics?
New Topographics is a term coined in 1975 by curator William Jenkins to describe a group of photographers whose work focused on formal black-and-white images of urban and industrial landscapes. Jenkins initially described their aesthetic as banal, but the photographers themselves argued that their compositions were as significant as those of natural landscapes, emphasizing the beauty in everyday, man-made environments.
