Lithograph in colors on Arches Cover paper Published by Anthology Film Archives, New York Initialed, dated and numbered in pencil. Claes Oldenburg’s Proposal For A Civic Monument In The Form Of Two Windows (1982) showcases his fascination with everyday objects transformed into monumental forms. This lithograph presents two large green-framed windows, one intact and the other shattered, set against a sketchy, minimalist background of trees and sky. The contrast between the pristine and broken window invites reflection on themes of fragility, change, and urban landscapes. Oldenburg, known for his playful and thought-provoking reinterpretations of common items, imbues the composition with a conceptual and sculptural sensibility. Published in a limited edition of 75 by Anthology Film Archives, this work exemplifies his approach to monumentalizing the ordinary.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
