Screenprint and lithograph from a portfolio of seventeen screenprints, nine lithographs, two lithographs with screenprint, one photocopy, and one photograph. Hand-signed and numbered by Oldenburg. From The New York Collection for Stockholm. Published by Experiments in Art and Technology, Inc., New York.
A witty screenprint and lithograph by Claes Oldenburg from the landmark New York Collection for Stockholm portfolio, published in 1973 by Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.). M.Mouse (with) 1 Ear (equals) Tea Bag Blackboard Version transforms a Mickey Mouse silhouette into a tea bag through Oldenburg's signature visual algebra — a playful equation rendered on a blackboard ground that collapses the boundary between Pop iconography and Surrealist wordplay. Hand-signed and numbered, edition of 300.

Claes Oldenburg (Sweden/USA, 1929–2022) was a pioneering sculptor known for monumental public art and soft sculptures. His works, often playful, transformed everyday objects into oversized icons, redefining the boundaries of Pop Art. Collaborating with Coosje van Bruggen, he created numerous large-scale projects worldwide, including Spoonbridge and Cherry in Minneapolis.

What is late modernism?

What is late modernism?

Late Modernism refers to the continuation and evolution of Modernist principles in art, architecture, and literature from the mid-20th century into the late 20th century. This movement maintains a focus on form, abstraction, and the rejection of traditional styles, but it often incorporates more complexity and ambiguity compared to early Modernism. Late Modernism explores themes such as alienation, identity, and the fragmentation of reality, reflecting the social and cultural shifts of the post-war period. It is seen in the works of architects like Louis Kahn and artists like Francis Bacon, who pushed the boundaries of Modernism while responding to the changing world around them.
