Bram BOGART | Bleu et rouge | Mixed Media

Mixed media on Canson paper. Signed with monogram BB. // Blue and red meet in a direct, tactile confrontation on Canson paper, each colour laid down with the material weight and physical immediacy that defines Bogart's singular practice. The Belgian-Dutch master of matière painting treats pigment as a sculptural substance, and even in this intimate format the density of his mark-making conveys a sense of monumental scale. The raw dialogue between the two primary colours channels the chromatic intensity of post-war European abstraction at its most elemental. Signed with the artist's BB monogram, this 1988 mixed-media work on paper is an essential complement to any collection focused on European materialist abstraction.

What is abstract expressionism?

Abstract Expressionism is an art movement that emerged in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. Characterized by large, abstract canvases, the movement emphasized spontaneous, expressive brushwork and the use of color and form to convey emotion rather than represent reality. Artists like Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning are key figures in this movement. Abstract Expressionism marked a shift in the art world, making New York City a center of the international art scene.
