Triptico de Amsterdam 3 by Antonio Saura is a 1975 serigraph that brings together five expressive drawings arranged as a unified composition. Executed with rapid, gestural black lines, the figures appear fragmented and abstract, oscillating between human forms and symbolic shapes. The largest panel shows a distorted figure filled with restless marks, while the surrounding smaller images present simplified faces and bodies reduced to energetic strokes. The limited palette of black ink on light paper emphasizes the immediacy of Saura’s line and his interest in psychological intensity. Associated with the Spanish postwar avant-garde and the El Paso group, Saura frequently explored the human figure through distortion and repetition. Printed in an edition of 190 with additional artist and hors commerce impressions, the work demonstrates his powerful graphic language and spontaneous drawing style.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
