Original Signed Artworks & Limited Edition Prints For Sale

Drawing his inspiration from the outputs of Pop Art and the iconography of Disney, David Spiller was a painter, renowned for his unique colourful works that often incorporate familiar cartoon figures with punchy catchphrases and song lyrics such as his Still Crazy After All These Years piece, a Daffy Duck painting with the title words emblazoned on the canvas in a collage style.

« I really want to make paintings that put some magic on the wall, Some of them are straightforward things. Some are wild things. But underneath,
it says I love you. »

David Spiller
The surfaces of many of Spiller’s work feature rudimentary scrawls and scribbles as inspired by the primal, almost child-like painterly techniques of the Art Brut movement and such associated artists as Jean Debuffet; rich in colour, quirky and fun, Spiller’s works are celebrated for their accessibility for children and adults alike. (Artist website)

What is pop-art?

What is pop-art?

Refers to an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged fine arts tradition by including popular culture imagery such as news and advertising. Pop art sometimes isolates and removes a material from its context and combines it with another unrelated material. This concept refers much to the attitudes that resulted in it and not on the art itself. Pop art employs comic books, advertising and other mass culture aspects. It is interpreted to have come as a reaction to abstract expressionism dominant ideas.
