Murano Glass. Signed and numbered on the accompanying certificate and inscribed on the bottom. Ai Weiwei’s Vase (green) (2024) merges traditional form and pop cultural critique through the medium of Murano glass. The Coca-Cola logo, embossed prominently across the vase’s surface, transforms this delicate green object into a statement on branding and cultural imperialism. Hand-blown by Italian artisans, the work continues Weiwei’s long-standing interest in appropriation and symbolism—referencing both ancient Chinese pottery and modern consumer products. Each piece is inscribed on the underside and issued with a signed and numbered certificate, from a total edition of 100.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
