Lithograph in 6 Colors on Arches - Paper Size: 20 x 26 inches - Signed and Numbered in Pencil by the artist's hand // Fog Gog Magog (2) by Roberto Matta, a six-color lithograph from 1971, is a dynamic and surreal composition filled with Matta’s characteristic fusion of abstract forms and playful figures. The scene is chaotic yet energetic, with nude figures entangled in whimsical, machine-like structures, suggesting a surreal landscape where the organic and mechanical intertwine. Splashes of blue and green create a vibrant, almost turbulent background, while bold shapes in red and yellow dominate the foreground, grounding the composition. Matta’s work often explores themes of human consciousness and existential conflict, and this piece captures a sense of movement and spontaneity, evoking both humor and philosophical reflection. Signed and numbered in pencil, it reflects the artist's hand and unique vision.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
