Ektacolor photograph on Kodak Professional paper - Signed and numbered in ink (verso) // Richard Prince’s Untitled (from Upstate - nudes) (1998) is a provocative photographic collage that examines themes of voyeurism, identity, and cultural voyeurism. The piece juxtaposes fragmented, candid images of women in various states of undress, each appearing captured in spontaneous, unposed moments. The grainy, warm-toned aesthetic evokes a sense of nostalgia while also lending the images a raw, documentary quality. Measuring 50.8 x 61 cm, this work exemplifies Prince’s fascination with appropriated imagery and his ability to challenge conventional narratives of representation, sexuality, and objectification within the realm of photography.

What is East Village Art?
In 1981, Patti Astor opened the first art gallery in New York City's East Village, helping to launch the careers of various artists and musicians. The gallery started small but quickly gained popularity, contributing to the emergence of art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art in the area. The East Village became a hub for these new artistic expressions. However, the gallery closed in 1985 due to waning interest.
