Collage print, work on paper // This limited edition collage by Richard Prince, titled Together, exemplifies his unique approach to appropriation and layering. The composition combines abstract sketches with photographic elements, merging different media to create a disjointed, yet intriguing narrative. The central portion features a photograph of crossed legs, blending with the rough, gestural outlines of seated figures in the surrounding drawings. Prince’s collage method feels raw and unfinished, with visible tape and overlapping fragments, emphasizing the process of construction. This work invites viewers to consider the relationship between photography, drawing, and appropriation, common themes in Prince’s oeuvre.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
